Visualizing Complex Global Supply Chains

For Cargill, a global leader in agriculture, the challenge was translating massive datasets into a compelling narrative about food security. How do you visualize the movement of 70 million metric tons of food across international borders annually and make stakeholders care?

The team synthesized internal data and global sources (World Bank, UN FAO) to create infographics that mapped the caloric gap—the essential movement of food from surplus to deficit regions. The visuals illustrated how 16% of the world’s food crosses borders to moderate local crop shortfalls and lower consumer costs, while transforming partnership data with CARE into measurable success: 35,000 farmers trained, 30,000 children with improved nutrition.

The series gave Cargill high-authority visual assets to engage stakeholders on international trade, poverty reduction, and sustainable agriculture—making complex global systems understandable and supporting the company’s advocacy efforts with policymakers and NGO partners.
